Hoof Care Specialist Training Available Again in Australia

australia-practitionerThe Diploma of Equine Podiotherapy course in Australia has just accepted its second intake of students for the course commencing in October.  This doesn’t sound out of the ordinary, but it is actually very exciting for the developers of the course who had a major setback last year due to the extensive bush fires in Australia.

Andrew Bowe, (the Barefoot Blacksmith www.barehoofcare.com) one of the course developers whose own equine rehabilitation centre was in the fire damaged region, said that sadly he now has first hand experience of dealing with fire induced laminitis cases to pass onto students.  This is something he had not expected, or wanted to be sharing when he wrote the course.

The Diploma of Equine Podiotherapy is a new career path that provides professional training for those wishing to be highly skilled rehabilitative hoof care specialists who work with natural hoof care methods.

Professor Robert Bowker of Michigan State University in the US will again travel to Australia to lecture on the anatomy of the distal limb & hoof.  The ACEPT feels extremely lucky to have his expertise, advice and support. Professor Bowker’s research at Michigan Unis’ Equine Hoof Laboratory makes his presence an exciting addition to the teaching team.

The college is also pleased to welcome Duncan McLaughlin to the teaching team and wants to congratulate him for successfully completing the Tevis cup ride in the United States last month.

Mike Ware, manager of Easycare Down Under www.easycaredownunder.com.au, an Equine Podiotherapist and a developer of this course says he is excited to be able to continue to support this course and through his links with Easycare Inc. in the US to provide cutting edge information on the latest boots and training in rehabilitation with hoof boots.

Equine hoof care is one of the few career paths that has not been impacted by the recession!  The demand in Australia for specialist trimmers far outstrips the supply.  If you would like to train in this new exciting field book now for the course commencing in February 2010, visit www.equinepodiotherapy.com.au or contact the course administrator at equinepodiotherapy@bigpond.com
