Carla and SS Kharady Khid @ Fort Shellbourne XP
Congratulations to Carla Richardson and her horse SS Kharady Khid, this year’s winner of our 2009 Hoof Boot contest. This is Carla’s first year in the contest and first year in hoof boots. Together they rode 1,560 miles in the Easyboot Glue-On! And she actually didn’t start booting Khid until April. They have only been riding together for two years but you’d think they’ve spent a life time together.
Carla is no stranger to riding, but this is only her second year riding endurance. “I’ve been riding all my life,” she says. “I started riding my grandfather’s broodmares in the pasture when I was 5 years old.” She enjoys being able to ride the trails, explore new places and meet wonderful people who share her love of horses, camping and the outdoors.
Khid, a 9 year old Arabian whom Carla says is a “very special horse, very tough, but a real sweetheart.” Carla bought him online without ever actually seeing him in person or riding him. He had been trained and shown in dressage but had never been out on the trail. “Despite all our trials and errors, Khid has become a fantastic trail horse. He’s learned to travel really well, which is essential,” says Carla. Having started the endurance year in shoes Carla feels that Khid was able to accumulate so many miles because of their migration to hoof boots.
She just loves the Easyboot Glove and Glue-On. “I’ve learned that the Glue-Ons are very dependable. Even though they are lightweight and without hardware, they hold up under a lot of stress and use, through all kinds of terrain. Khid and I traveled through deep sand in the desert, deep mud in the high mountains, hard rock in the mountains and high desert, and hard packed trails all over the west. We competed in Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and South Dakota!”
Carla feels very fortunate to have had other experienced riders and boot users that have helped her along the way. It’s been an incredible year for both Carla and SS Kharady Khid.
